This weekend i finally had time to dye some yarn. i used food colors, koolaid and lots of vinegar. after heating the yarn up in the microwave i rinsed it with conditioner for colored hair and dryed it. i know it all sounds terrible....but it was fun. and the colors came out great. the orchid pink is very close to the LL old rose.
now i cant make up my mind which patterns i should knit up with that yarn. i think i might use the brown for the Merino Lace socks.
i also knit one sock so far for my little punk in Opal Ambiente Toskana using the Cable Rib pattern on 48 stitches and size 0 bamboos. cute huh?

Wow - I'm impressed! - dying your own yarn! They look beautiful!
Beautiful job on the yarn! What base yarn did you use?
If you knit the Merino Lace Socks, keep in mind that the purl stitches should continue on the foot chart. It's an error in the book!
The colors are beautiful, and the striped sock is really cute!
wow...how did you get such rich greens and browns?
thank you all for your nice comments!
the base yarn i used is schoppel sock yarn which is a german company. there is lots of undyed yarn available online.
the rich colors are the result of dyeing the yarn a couple times with different colors. the green for example was lime green first, then orange and darker green. the brown was harder, i didnt like the light brown i got at first, so i put it in turquoise, more weird looking brownish dye and that s what i got.
thanks to kristy for reminding me of the purl stitch.
Thanks for the recipe on how you dyed your yarn. This is something I want to do at some point! :)
