I think that the yarn that I picked for these socks really makes the sock "pop", but I have been having some troubles with my gauge. Specifically, the yarn is too thin to make the socks on the size 2 (2.75 mm) needles that the pattern calls for and I have fatter calves, so I had to use a 4.5 mm needle to cast the stitches on and a size 3mm needle to knit the cuff with. I then switched to the size 2 needle. It has made a difference to the finished sock, but I still love them. I started them yesterday morning and am just working the gusset decreases on the second sock. Can't wait to post a finished photo. There are more details/photos on my BLOG.
