Retro

I have finished the leg of the first sock in the Retro Rib pattern. It's an easy pattern to memorize. I just needed a postie to keep track of how many times I went through the pattern. The heel looks a little weird, though. I can't figure out why it is knit one, slip one all the way across. Maybe I'm reading the pattern wrong. The Montana Wool is an absolute dream to work with. It is so soft and luxurious. Unfortunately, I've discovered that I'm allergic to the wool. Bummer! I get horrible headaches and a sore throat when working with it. I picked up a few masks to wear while knitting so hopefully that will help me finish the project. I just spent way too much money on this wool to let it sit. If the masks don't work I'll have to find someone to finish them for me.

I'm sorry to hear you're having allergy problems! That's a real bummer :(

Heels often have a k1, s1 pattern because it makes a thicker fabric. Reinforcement in the heel makes the sock last longer :)

I love this pattern!

I agree with Kristy about the heel. Seems like a lot of sock patterns are written that way.

I agree, the s1, k1 makes the heel much thicker and longer wearing. I do all mine that way now even if the pattern doesn't call for it.

Thanks for the info - I haven't made very many socks and I plan on tackling this one - allergy or no! :)

Your sock looks lovely! I actually prefer the K1,Slip 1 heels...they are more cushy.

I have made 2 pairs of the Retro. One for me, one for Husband. One of them is wearing a bit thin (after years of wear) and I have been thinking about replacing them. The colorway on your Retro looks great and has inspired to me to try something other than a plain color on the replacment.
